From the Pantry

As I was getting my shopping list ready for the store today I realized my pantry was running a bit low, which gave me the idea to write this post…

One of the greatest things you can do for yourself and your kitchen is to have a well-stocked pantry. In fact, the key to making a delicious stress-free meal is to have most of your ingredients already at hand. There is nothing worse than knowing you have a guest on the way and realizing you have nothing to set out when they arrive, or craving a snack only to find that your pantry is bare.

A few of the things I try to always have on hand:
Extra-Virgin Olive Oil: This is a definite must in my kitchen! Make sure you choose a good quality oil especially if you’ll be using it for salads or for dipping.
Vinegars: Balsamic for salads or dipping bread into and both red and white-wine vinegars.
Fresh Garlic and Shallots
Canned Cannellini Beans: Make sure they are a good variety. I prefer the kind at Trader Joes.
Marinara Sauce
Dried Herbs: My favorites are thyme, rosemary, oregano, and herbs de Provence.
Capers: I love capers! They add a salty brined taste to meats, salads, and pastas.
Canned Tuna: I prefer the kind packed in olive oil at Trader Joes.
Dried Pasta: Pasta is a staple in this house. I could probably eat pasta every day without one complaint.

Olives: Any kind is delicious and they make a great small bite when simply tossed with some olive oil and dried or fresh herbs.
Salami and cheese: Oh how I love any kind of salami…especially when accompanied by cheese : )
Fresh crusty bread: Perfect to cut into small toasts and top with…well anything you like...tomatoes garlic and basil; olive tapenade; goat cheese and roasted red peppers; gorgonzola and honey…you name it!

Shopping awaits!
