Vanilla French Toast

Good morning and welcome to the weekend!  This morning I woke up and felt like making the hubs some breakfast.  First, I should begin by letting you in on a little secret...the hubs makes breakfast just about every weekend in this house.  I know, I know, I'm the one with the food blog here, but there's just something special about the way he fries an egg, browns potatoes, crisps bacon...the list goes on and on.  Once I discovered his flare for breakfast food I threw in the towel, and he has been making it ever since.  But, every once in a blue moon, I feel like letting him sleep in while I try to put together something half decent.

Well, today I must have woken up with luck on my side because I made a mouthwatering, buttery, fluffy French toast.  This is the simplest and tastiest French toast you will ever make.  Coated with vanilla milky goodness and spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg.  Make this for your someone special over the weekend and they'll be sure to shower you with affection.  I should really be careful though...I don't want the hubs thinking he's off breakfast duty for good!

Makes 4 Servings

4 eggs, lightly beaten
1 cup milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
8 slices sourdough bread
2 tablespoons butter
Maple syrup

In a shallow bowl, beat together eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg.  Dip bread slices into egg mixture, coating both sides.

In a very large skillet or on a griddle, melt 1 tablespoon of the butter over medium heat.  Add half of the bread slices and cook for 4 to 6 minutes or until golden, turning once.  Repeat with remaining bread slices and the remaining butter.  Serve with maple syrup.
